Over the weekend a friend of mine, recently returned from Africa, told me the best way to cure acne and heal facial sores was to kiss a Giraffe. Everyone in our group cringed.

I did some research & discovered, much to my amusement, Giraffe saliva has important antibacterial and healing qualities, and there is serious research being undertaken into the properties of griaffe mucus.

Calendula, a common plant native to Mediterranean countries, and its extract, was carried by soldiers as their first aid kit. It was well regarded for treatment of wounds and ulcers with calendula's medicinal features often being the only thing stopping an open wound from becoming septic.

Lavender is the one ‘essential oils’ almost always found in the ‘top 5’ for skin care, aromatherapy and therapeutic results.

There is a good reason why. It is a calming, relaxing oil, which combats stress and crisis, while its antiseptic properties help with cold, flu and other ailments. Its vapours are excellent for asthma and migraines. Chamomile dates back at least to the time of the Ancient Egyptians, when it was dedicated to their sun god for being a cure for the 'Ague' or fever.  It  is mentioned as an herb during the middle ages and is one of the ‘Nine Sacred Herbs’ of the Anglo Saxons. Chamomile is the one ingredient found in all love potions and mentioned in Greek mythology as used by the gods.
